Cardiac Rehabilitation
Your heart is a muscle that demands the same attention as any other muscle in your body - take care of it, and it will take care of you. Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital's cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program is dedicated to helping patients with cardiac and pulmonary issues get the motivation, encouragement and guidance they need to help improve health and quality of life.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
Cardiac rehabilitation is designed to help participants recover from coronary interventions such as bypass surgery, stent placement, angioplasty, valve replacement or heart transplant. Participants who have had a recent heart attack or have been diagnosed with heart failure, cardiomyopathy or stable angina will also benefit from the program.
Surgical interventions, in many instances, are a necessity to improve heart function in those with coronary artery disease. However, lifestyle changes are a positive catalyst for returning to a productive life. The goal of cardiac rehabilitation services is to prevent future cardiac events and reduce the need for hospitalizations or unplanned medical visits.
This program is a physician referred service. The cardiopulmonary team at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital would gladly assist in obtaining this referral.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Pulmonary rehabilitation is an integral component of medical therapy for those suffering from chronic respiratory disease. The benefits of rehabilitation are evident by improvements in symptom relief, exercise capacity and quality of life.
Though pulmonary rehabilitation does not directly increase lung function, participation in this program helps improve muscle endurance, physical function, self-confidence and independence. Pulmonary rehabilitation also helps reduce anxiety levels, muscle tension and symptoms of depression.
This program is a physician referred service. The cardiopulmonary team at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital would gladly assist in obtaining this referral.
Cardiopulmonary Phase Ill Rehabilitation
Phase Ill cardiopulmonary rehabilitation is designed to provide ongoing support for participants who have successfully completed rehabilitation after a heart intervention or diagnosis of chronic lung disease.
The program is also available for those suffer from dyspnea, fatigue, exercise intolerance or coronary artery disease (without intervention).
All potential candidates who have not participated in Phase II rehabilitation will need a physician's approval before beginning. The cardiopulmonary team at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital would gladly assist in obtaining a physician's clearance form.
The program includes:
- One EKG monitored session during active membership
- Exercise plans addressing mode, intensity and duration
- Observation of heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen saturation levels
- Unlimited use of walking track during hours of operation
