Cardiac Catheterization
Specialists in the Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital cath lab utilize image-guided therapy (catheterization) to diagnose and treat heart and vascular conditions. This minimally invasive technique enables cardiologists and radiologists to evaluate blood flow, identify heart and blood vessel concerns and even resolve certain conditions.
During a catheterization, a thin, hollow, flexible tube is inserted into a blood vessel in the groin or wrist. This tube is guided through the blood vessel to examine the heart, arteries and veins with real-time images (fluoroscopy) that provide information about a variety of conditions. These procedures only require a tiny incision, resulting in less blood loss, less pain and a quicker recovery for patients.
The cath team at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital - interventional cardiologists, interventional radiologists, cardiac nurses and technologists - work together to help patients and families feel comfortable, safe and informed during a range of cardiac and vascular procedures, including:
- Heart catheterization
- Peripheral angiography
- Vena cava filter procedures
- Intravascular ultrasound
- Pericardiocentesis
